Master bedroom makeover in progress!

I'm so excited that after MONTHS of discussing our master bedroom makeover it is finally in progress!

We moved into our home 3 years ago and have slowly been repainting all the rooms!  Our master bedroom is not our style at all.  The previous homeowners had a tropical theme throughout the house.  Fine for some but it didn't suit us.  And neither did the cream and brown two tone paint in the master bedroom.

Thanks to Pinterest I've spent A LOT of time thinking about how I wanted the room to look.  Despite my disdain for our bedroom furniture-we bought it when we bought our first house 8 years ago-my husband said it had to stay, for now.

I did find this set on Craigslist that I would LOVE to refinish.  Maybe I could talk my hubby into it?!?! It's such an awesome deal at $475!!

One day last week I had the day off and spent a fun morning with Heather from the ReStyle Group here in town.  Heather and her team do everything from reworking what you already have to full blown makeovers.  I had a good idea of what I wanted to do in the room, which Heather said is 90 steps ahead of her other clients so she is really just helping me put it all together and then accessorize it all.

The chevron pillow is from Target, the yellow-gold pillow is from Pottery Barn and the fabric which I am totally in love with is Kravet

The Kravet fabric is so expensive.  But I don't care.  I've been staring at this fabric for months now and I must have it!  The gal at the fabric store said I can get two 26" pillow fronts out of one yard so my plan is to buy two yards, use one for the pillows and the second yard I'm going to use in the bathroom over the windows to make fabric covered window cornices.  I know I know-at $50 a yard you'd think I would try something else!

Heather picked out two gorgeous paint colors for us as well.  Gobi Desert and Contemplation by Behr.

BEHR Ultra 8 oz. Gobi Desert Interior/Exterior Paint Tester # 710C-3

Gobi Desert will be in our master bedroom and one wall leading into our bathroom.  Contemplation is the PERFECT color for our bathroom since we have tan tile, grout, dark wood cabinets, counters, etc etc.  It's a LOT of brown.
Next week the painting is getting done so I just need to finish up deciding on our duvet cover and find some mirrors to go over the bathroom counter!

Stay tuned for more photos!

Valentine's Day Treats

Somewhere in between two birthdays this month my oldest son and my daughter decided we should make treats to give to their teachers for Valentine's Day!  Not an easy task when my daughter has a total of 5 teachers between her 3 during the day and two in the afternoons! To simplify things we made a group gift for them!

I saw this yummy recipe on Love From the Oven and the kids agreed that is what they wanted to make!

Cookies in a whoopie pie pan may be my new favorite cookie.  They bake up perfectly round (which is important to me) and are nice and thick!  The recipe is adapted from Picky Palate and so delicious.  Go run out now and buy a whoopie pie pan-you won't be sorry!

Eighteen 25 featured this adorable (and free) printable jar label and it was perfect for our cookies!

Love printable available here.

The glass jars I got from Target.  They had 3 different sizes and we used the smallest size.  I also happen to find the same jars at Hobby Lobby the next week for 50% off!  Mental note to look there FIRST next time!  I think these were only $4.99 each at Target.

I also spent the weekend baking up mounds of cake pops for a friend!  She always asks me to make them for her for pretty much every holiday or one of her kids birthdays and since I love making them (and I'm nice) I can never say no!

I was excited to use my Little Cupcake Pop mold in the heart shape though!  If you make cake pops as often as I do these molds are a MUST have!  Again my OCD kicks in and the sphere makes the most perfect circles and the cake pops seem to hold their shape better!

We added these fun little tags and her daughters had the perfect Valentine's for their classmates!

Hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day!

Surf's up {Baby Shower}

The Vintage Surf baby shower that I was co-hosting with my friend Susan went perfectly!

The colors of the party were so fun and fresh with the orange, light green, pale blue and chocolate brown.

Thanks to my sister who had a luau themed party for my neice two years ago the amount of decorations I had to purchase was limited.  I also raided my party supplies for anything that I thought I could use.

All in all I only spent less then $50 and that included all the baking supplies for the dessert table!

Susan and I had helpers for the rest of the food and drinks as well.  It really helps to have several people to help spread out the costs!

Now get ready for photo overload!
{The Decorations}

The awesome and adorable printables came from The TomKat Studio.  Kim is simply amazing at what she does!  Instead of using the welcome sign as a regular door hanger I took some ribbon and streamers from my stash and wound it around a straw wreath (also from my stash and soon to become the wreath for our next party!).  I had made some tissue paper rosettes to hang but didn't end up using them so I stuck one on the wreath with Scotch tape!

The paper for the bunting I purchased at Michael's and it coordinated perfectly!  The striped orange bags came from Shop Sweet Lulu.  I ordered a bunch of supplies from there for our next party that I can't wait to use!  Inside the bags we just put cookies from Paradise Bakery as party favors.

The little green suitcases are from Land of Nod.  They will be appearing in littlest guys Vintage Transportation room soon!

I've been using tissue paper poms for awhile now.  To me they are just timeless.  I love the tissue paper pom chandaliers popping up on party websites so i used some along with leftover lanterns to disguise our light fixtures.

{The Food}

Thanks to Pinterest we got some great ideas for food!  Paulina (2nd time mommy-to-be) has had a slight obsession with the chicken tacos at Chipotle her entire pregnancy.  So what else was there to do but have a taco bar!  We ordered chicken from Chipotle and then purchased the remainder of the items at Costco.

I came across the idea of using a watermelon to make a shark and I just knew we had to do it!  Who knew that you could only find the bambino watermelons in the middle of January.  We made it work and he was so cute!

Individual 7-layer dip was a must have at this party!  It was a huge hit and no need to worry about double-dippers!

{The Desserts}

With the exception of the brownie bites that we got from Costco I made everything on the dessert table!  I'm not too sure I'll ever do that again because it was a lot of work but something to be proud of!

Naturally we had cake pops (strawberry vanilla and devils food) plus Pina Colada cupcakes.  Everyone LOVED these cupcakes-they were so delicious!  I'll post the receipe in a day or two.

My first time ever making lemon bars and they were so yummy!  The receipe came out of one of my kids cookbooks!

The surfboard sugar cookies were not my best work but it was the first time I tried to "flood" a cookie.  I clearly don't have a steady hand but they looked cute and tasted so good!  I covered the serving tray in brown sugar to look like sand.

Not pictured were also Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries and Mini Fruit Pizzas

Since I worked so hard on the dessert table background I should mention it.  I wanted something breezy for the background.  My party supply stash had a lot of lime green and turquoise streamers so one night I started taping them to the ceiling and the wall down behind the table.  I love the look that it gave the table!  It added some color and interest!  It did take me a few hours ;)  With a little more work I probably could have completely blocked out the wall behind it but I really wasn't striving for perfection in this case!

And finally my co-hostess Susan, the mommy-to-be Paulina and I!  (I'm not too sure what's going on with my hair in this photo!)

We had such a wonderful time celebrating our gorgeous friend and we can't wait to meet her baby boy sometime in March!

Thank you to all of our party helpers!
We couldn't have do it without you!
